A proposed name change for the Phoenix-Talent School District including re-branding Phoenix High School and Talent Middle School has been defeated by an out pour of opposition.

Students were told in a morning announcement that the school will not change the name of the school district or any schools. Even with the news, armed with a banner signed by a number of students and a group of about fifty, they marched to the district office anyway. Once there they were turned away by a district official and told to go back to class. One school board official said, "every once in a while it's a good idea to look in the mirror and see what you are." School Board Chairman, Craig Prewitt says, "The response was overwhelming, passionate and singular."
