Thursday in Jackson County, the Oregon State Police bomb squad successfully detonated a pipe bomb found outside the Jackson County Fair Grounds. Investigators are still trying to figure out who put it there and why.

At around five Thursday night, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the Oregon State Police responded.  Deputies tell us that a bicyclist noticed what appeared to be a pipe bomb in a ditch on Peninger Road.

Sgt. Dance Cochran of the Jackson County Sheriff's said "You know, he did the proper thing. He didn't mess with it. He called someone to come and take care of it properly and that was the appropriate thing on his part."

Peninger was reopened shortly before 7 p-m.

Deputies stress that if you think you have found any sort of explosive,do not touch it, and call 9-1-1 immediately.
