Time is running out for Jackson County Libraries. They only have a few months to secure funding or else most of them will close this July.

Today, Jackson County Commissioners decided to continue the process of creating the Jackson County Library District. Several people came to speak at the session. All, but one, said they are in support of creating a district.

As proposed, a district could add up to .60 cents per one-thousand dollars assessed property value to voter taxes. For the average property owner that would be $92.53 more a year.

Another public hearing will be held before the matter goes on the ballot.
