Pursuit through Medford

In one wild ride, a driver leads police and sheriffs on a chase... from rural Eagle Point to south Medford. Our cameras were first on scene.

Medford man, Bill Kanehl, woke up around 8:30 Wednesday morning to flashing lights filling his street, "They had the car completely surrounded," Kanehl says. "They weren't wasting any time."

Sheriffs arrested this man: 22 year old Phillip D. Sipress. "The vehicle was involved in a hit and run," says Sgt. Tim Snaith. He tells us Sipress hit a Garner Tree service truck in rural Eagle Point. But it didn't stop there. When deputies attempted to pull him over, he took off starting near Highway 140 and East Antelope Road.

"The vehicle lead them in circles for a while," says Snaith. Refusing to pull over, the wild ride took officers to Highway 62... where spike strips were deployed, popping a tire -- "You can see the rear wheel is damaged," Snaith shows us.

The chase went on to Delta Waters -- Springbrook -- Main to Willamette: where deputies were finally able to use a pit maneuver to bump the Honda Prelude - causing it to crash.

"All I saw was them putting their guns up. It happened so quick," comments Kanehl.

Sheriffs tell us Sipress has a suspended license. He's now lodged in the Jackson County Jail.

Deputies tell us speeds never reached higher than 45 miles per hour.

Sipress is charged with attempt to elude, reckless driving, and hit and run - property damage.
