A trip to the grocery store is about to take a little longer for some shoppers in Southern Oregon and Northern California.

The owners of Rays Food Place and Shop Smart, C&K Markets, just declared chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The store in Phoenix is just one of the several slated for closure.

C&K Market says the decision to close a third of its stores was difficult.

Difficult is also how surrounding businesses feel about functioning without the foot traffic from Rays "They're the hub here in Phoenix at this point in time for the main grocery outlet. You don't have anything out here" said John Williams, manager at Angelo's Pizza.

Not to mention difficult for residents "I shop here quite a lot. This is a very nice market. We'd really miss this, that's for sure. Out in this end of the valley, there's not that much out here" said Wayne Stone.

Other stores slated to close include two in Grants Pass, one in White City, and one in Yreka.

The company also says it will lay off 20% of it's staff.

No word on when the stores will close.
