Josephine County Sheriff, Gil Gilbertson is getting some heat from an Editor at the Grants Pass Daily Courier for not releasing public records.

When asked why all public records were not released, Josephine County Sheriff Gil Gilbertson said "we have no records division anymore, I have no PIO, it's taking away from out job to provide this information."

In June a 27-page log was released to the Grants Pass Daily Courier. After finding out that information was not redacted they were asked to send it back. When they requested the information again they received a little over one page. That prompted newspaper editor, Dennis Roler to write an article informing the public. "Are there more burglaries? Is there more that the public needs to know about? We can't keep going on like this, he needs to tell the public what he's doing." Gilbertson says he plans to make some portion of the incident log available to the media but it's unclear how detailed that would be. The lack of records department and personnel, the sheriff may may also impose a fee.
