Standoff in east Medford

Medford, Ore. -- Medford police blocked streets and evacuated residents this morning during a standoff near Providence Medford Medical Center.

Police say 27 year old Thomas Molia beat 29 year old James Alan Smithee following a verbal argument. According to Medford police, Smithee suffered several injuries and while attempting to walk across the street to the hospital, collapsed. He was treated for broken fingers, a broken elbow and head wound requiring several staples.

Molia is charged with Menacing and Assault in the 2nd and 4th degree. His bail is over $1-million.
