Promoting cultural connections through theatre...
Tonight a talented troupe of student Shakespeareans from Iraq  took to the the Green Show stage in Ashland, delivering a unique twist to the Bard.  A group of students from the American University of Iraq - Sulaimaini performed on the bricks tonight, seemlessly  transitioning between English and Kurdish prose.

Last year, Shakespeare Iraq mounted the first English language Shakespeare production in the country's history.  Not soon after, an Oregon Shakespeare Festival member heard an interview with the show's director and made plans for the troupe to share their gift with Ashland.

The students have been raising money to make their first trip to America.  In the audience supporting them tonight, an Iraq War veteran, who shares their love of Shakespeare.

There are still two more opportunities to catch the Green Show performance of Shakespeare Iraq.  The free shows are this weekend, July 7 an July 8 at 7:15pm.
