The last teacher strike in our area happened six years ago, in rogue river at a time when funding was cut short. A time when teachers and school officials didn't see eye-to-eye. Today some of those involved in that very same  strike six years ago are  looking back during today's strike in eagle point.

Teachers from four schools of the small southern oregon town packed up and left their classrooms to picket in 2006 after contract talks  ended, a day many can't forget. Six years ago on april 12th  was the last teacher strike. This is video from days before that strike in 2006 when teachers and district officials struggled to see each other's side. The issue was money. Bargaining had been going on for almost a year and causedfrustration on both sides teachers decided that it was time to strike. Trying to get more insight  from the districts point of view i called every member of the 2006 board including the principal at that time.  I only reached one. Still upset about the situation six years later, Dick Handbury resigned as the board's 2006 chairman, out of frustration. He says his stomach turns when he see's what's happening today in eagle point. It's the one thing that everyone seems to agree on. The 2006 strike lasted just 36 hours. It was no vacation for the teachers who were out of work or the district who had to close schools until anagreement could be made. Two years after the 2006 strike. The rogue river school district faced a  similar situation. but a strike was averted. Many say the healing process after a strike can take years.
