Better late than never, volunteers help a charity make Christmas come true for local children that otherwise wouldn't have toys under their tree.
NBC-5's Roma Villavicencio was at today's distribution in White City this morning.
Kyle, Toys for Tots was supposed to distribute all of the toys last Saturday, but a lot of people say they weren't notified about where to pick them up and they didn't show.
The organizer then gave away the toys to a different charity, leaving some wanting - just days before christmas.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of volunteers, Toys for Tots was able to gather hundreds of toys this past week to give away this morning to needy families.
Some say without these toys their children wouldn't have much.
"My daughter only got one gift. I was hoping for another, so she'll be really happy to receive one more gift."
The information regarding the time and location of last Saturday's pick up was posted on the Toys for Tots website, but it wasn't easy to find. Many people said they didn't know what to do and missed it.
Unfortunately, today's toy distribution wasn't pleasant for everyone. Some say they felt uncomfortable after the event coordinator made comments that they felt were racially insensitive.
We will be following that part of the story for you on Monday.
