Medford, Ore. -- Two Medford transients are in jail tonight after police said they lured a minor into their van for sex.
Mark Doty, 41, and Cameron Lauckner, 19, are facing charges for luring a minor, online sexual corruption of a child, and unlawful delivery of marijuana to a minor.
Police said the two suspects met the 16 year-old boy on Cragislist under "casual encounters."
"In this case the suspects did know the victim's age," Lieutenant Mike Budreau said.
Police said Doty is a sex offender and that he and Lauckner's contact with the victim began with the exchange of sexual videos and photos via cell phone.
Police said the victim agreed to meet Doty and Lauckner Wednesday in the van they were living in in the Sears parking lot. Police believe the suspects intended it to be a sexual encounter. They said the suspects gave the boy marijuana but allowed him to leave when he became concerned for his safety.
"This could have really turned out rather bad when you have a juvenile meeting a sex offender in a van. Who know really what could have happened?" Budreau said.
A couple days later the victim told his parents. They contacted police.
The two men were arrested Thursday after police were able to track down their van in the Lowe's parking lot.
Budreau said people need to be cautious of which online
"friends" they meet in person.
"It's proven to be dangerous and nothing good can really come of it," Budreau said.
He also said that although MPD doesn't see cases like this often it's a good reminder for parents to always be aware of what their kids are doing on the computer.
