Driving longer distances in an all electric vehicle is becoming a reality as the largest electric highway is introduced in oregon.

In 2009, the US Department of Energy selected Oregon as one of seven test markets for the largest deployment of all-electric vehicles and charging stations. Today, the unveiling of the first part of that right here in Southern Oregon. Interstate 5 was given a new nickname today. it's being dubbed the West Coast Electric Highway. it's the first major stretch of road in the nation that offers electric vehicles a place to charge up. paul caffrey owns and loves his subaru but it runs on regular old gasoline and he's looking for a switch.he's done his homework on these cars, but in order to go all the way with a purchase, he needs to know that he can get there. the driving radius on these all electric cars is limited. the unveiling of the state of the art electric charging artery on the nations second busiest interstate brought close to one hundred people together. but not everyone is ready to go this green. if it's not the forty thousand dollar price tag it the limited range that theses cars can travel before having to recharge. however, in the state of oregon the dream of traveling across the state in an all electric car-is now a reality.the goal is to make it an

all-electric drive from canada to mexico without gas. for more information on the west coast electric highway and a list of charging stations near you, go online to
