Three people are dead after a gunman breaks into a New Jersey shopping center, prompting a shoot-out with police.

Officers responded to shots fired at the Pathmark in Old Bridge, New Jersey, just before 4 Friday morning.

The store was not open at the time, but employees were inside stocking shelves.

Right now, it's not clear how many employees were shot before police responded.

Reports say the alleged shooter was wearing body armor.

The gunman is believed to be among the dead.

This is following a similar shooting near the Empire State Building.

That happened just one week ago.

The shoot-out between police and an armed man, later identified as Jeffrey Johnson.

Left two people dead and nine injured.

Police say Johnson confronted a former coworker on the street outside the Empire State Building shooting him three times.

Johnson was fired from his job last year.
