Kasilof, Alaska -- (KTUU) The "Funny River" wildfire burning on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula is growing.
Heavy winds reinvigorated the fire Sunday afternoon, fueling the flames and forcing more evacuations.
At the nearby helibase, aircraft have taken off during all hours, carrying provisions to fight the flames. Although some planes carried water over the blaze, others were loaded up with flame retardants in an effort to protect local homes. Enduring rapidly changing conditions throughout the weekend, pilots, firefighters, and residents have attempted to stave off the worst of nature's wrath in any way they can.
