Well it looks like it's official, former Ducks football coach Chip Kelly has a new replacement. Mark Helfrich, the Ducks' offensive coordinator was promoted to head coach on Sunday. Helfrich has Southern Oregon ties. He went to school, played football and coached at Southern Oregon University back in the early 90s.

"He deserves it, he is everything right with football and he is tough enough, he is genuine but also tough enough to handle it and he has been to different places and seen how coaches do it and how not to do it, " said SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre in a recent interview.

This past October, Helfrich was inducted into the SOU hall of fame. He is expected to take over as Chip Kelly makes his move to coach the Philadelphia Eagles.

And another hot topic: The San Francisco 49ers are headed to the Super Bowl. On Sunday, they beat the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC championship game. A nail biting second half rally helped secure the win for the 49ers. The ending score was 28-24.

The 49ers will face the Baltimore Ravens in the Super Bowl on February third. The Ravens beat the New England Patriots 28-13.
