Happy ending to terrifying chase

Longmont, Colo. -- (NBC News)  A 4-year-old Colorado boy is safe following a terrifying ordeal that began with a carjacking in Longmont, Colorado Wednesday morning.

It began when a man took an SUV left running in the parking lot of a gas station.  The boy had been left in the backseat while his mother went in to pay.

After a nearly 30-minute high speed chase the driver forced another minivan to the side of the road, then took that vehicle, leaving the boy behind.

Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan Cole Stone, The suspect then led police on a chase, ditched the red SUV and carjacked two additional vehicles before crashing.

While driving the second vehicle the driver struck and seriously injured a Colorado State Trooper on the side of the Interstate, but kept going.

Stone was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Arapahoe County for dangerous drugs. He had a long criminal history and served time in prison for menacing and weapons charges. His parents live in Longmont.
