Medford man accused in kidnapping, rape appears in court

Medford, Ore. -- A Medford man charged with raping a 14 year-old girl is in court and faces a judge and jury.

A jury has been selected and opening arguments have begun in the case against 42 year-old Edgar Leonel Perez-Izara.

Perez-Izara was arrested in September of 2013, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, he stalked the 14 year-old victim and when he found her alone at her family's Phoenix home he threatened, and then sexually assaulted her.

Investigators believe Perez-Izara knew the victim's family.

He was originally charged with first and third degree rape, first degree sexual abuse, kidnapping, coercion and burglary.

Court proceedings are expected to continue Wednesday.
