Teen birth rates decline

(NBC News) A new government report shows the number of teenagers giving birth has declined over time.

Since peaking in 1957, teen birth rates have steadily fallen and dropped 57% between 1991 and 2013. That translates into an estimated four million fewer babies born to teens just over the last decade.

Teen birth rates were higher among Hispanics and African Americans, but the gap continues to narrow. Experts credit decreased sexual activity and more widespread use of contraception for the drop in teen births.
