Undocumented children arrive in Arizona

Nogales, Az. -- (CNN) Arizona Governor Jan Brewer is angry over an influx of undocumented children since the memorial day weekend. It's not just because they're in the U.S. illegally, but because the federal government is dumping them in her state.

A detention center in Nogales, Arizona is where immigration officials moved more than 1,000 undocumented children this weekend. Most of them from Central America.

This latest operation by federal immigration officials comes on the heels of an influx of women and children over the Memorial Day weekend -- caught illegally trying to cross into Texas.

Hundreds were flown to Tucson then bussed to Phoenix and left at a bus station to find their way.

"Beginning on Tuesday, we started seeing families dropped off...three to six months old," said Cyndi Whitemore from the Phoenix Restoration Project.

"They're now being released on their own recognizance, which means given authorization to travel and reunite with members in the United States," said Leah Sarat from the Phoenix Restoration Project.

But it's this weekend's transport of undocumented children to Nogales that has called the entire operation into question.

Governor Brewer was highly critical of the move -she released a statement on Friday saying in part, quote:  "I am disturbed and outraged that President Obama's administration continues to implement this dangerous and inhumane policy.”

Although the overall trend of illegal immigration has dropped in recent years, the authorities have been overwhelmed in recent months by the surge in unaccompanied children trying to cross the border.
