Comments made by the Medford Police Department Thursday sparked outrage across the community.
Tyler Woodard is one of many who feels the department is discriminating against the breed. He's had his pit bull, Smokey, for 3 years.
"Honestly he's like my son. I see where people can see the aggression, but if it's raised right, you will see a loving, playful dog," Woodard said.
Wanting to do something and show his support against a ban, Woodard created an online petition at thepetitionsite.com.
In just a little more than 24 hours, he exceeded 2,000 online signatures.
"I got people from Russia to China, to Chile, across the world, across the US that are signing the petition just to support it."
Woodard says he's not sure what's next but has been contacted by several animal organizations willing to do what they can to help.
But for now he's just hoping that when people see the petition, they'll understand, most incident's involving pitbulls are isolated.
