Phoenix, Ore. -- Starting this morning, some drivers getting on Interstate 5 in Phoenix will need to find an alternate route.

The southbound on-ramp at exit 24 and Fern Valley Interchange will be closed for nearly a week while construction crews connect a temporary on-ramp.

During the five day period, Phoenix drivers heading south will need to use Highway-99 to Talent and get on the interstate there.

"It will be a little different at first but the reason for that is that we need to open up this area so that the contractor can begin working on the west side. We're trying to provide some certainty and safety to drivers and we hope to do that by opening this temporary on ramp," says Gary Leaming, ODOT.

The new temporary on-ramp should be completed by this Friday.
