Police respond, detonate suspicious object

Medford, Ore. -- Medford Police and the Oregon State Police Bomb Squad responded to a suspicious package Friday evening.

The call came into police at around 5pm Friday evening about a suspicious package seen on Central Avenue near McAndrews Road.

According to Sgt. Geoff Kirkpatrick with the Medford Police Department they closed down Central Avenue for almost 2 hours and activated the bomb squad "They also agreed that the package was suspicious in nature and decided to utilize their robot to render the package safe and it was discovered that it was a styrofoam cooler wrapped in duct tape and also wrapped in cellophane."

McAndrews Road was also closed for a short time before and after the bomb squad detonated the object.
