Kiev, Ukraine - (NBC News) Authorities in Kiev said Tuesday violence between protesters and police has killed at least fourteen people, including six police officers. Street battles continue into the night.

It's the worst violence since protesters began occupying independence square to show their disapproval of the President's choice to align the country with Russia rather than the European Union.

The police moved to take on thousands of protesters and demonstrators fought back with rocks and fire bombs. Police then fired tear gas and stun grenades.

Clashes began outside parliament after the opposition accused the government of ignoring its demands.

As darkness fell it appears that Ukrainian security forces will try to clear protest camps in the square.
