Callahan's Lodge feeling the hit

Ashland, Ore.-- A busy Sunday morning at Callahan's Lodge is something the owner's said they want to see more of.

"It's been a reckoning that we would have never projected," said owner, Donna Bergquist.

Bergquist and her husband Ron have owned the lodge for 18 years; the go to spot for many avid skiers and snowboarders.

She said the lack of snow and skiers on Mt. Ashland this year translates into not enough money for the lodge.

"Business is down about 25% from last year. It's one of those things you don't anticipate and when it does happen it is a shock."

That comes out to a loss of about $30,000 according to Bergquist. But they said this isn't the first time they've been in a tight spot.

In 2006 the lodge burned down to the ground and they had to completely rebuild. Bergquist said if they can get through that they can get through a slow ski season.

"We'll go on we continue business we're blessed with the opportunity to do banquets and receptions."

And weddings, the reason why Bergquest said she does her job and is able to carry out the Callahan's tradition.
