Update (5/7 11:00am): The Jackson County Sheriff's Office have arrested the driver in the April 2nd two-vehicle crash that killed two people on North River Road.
Officials say evidence shows that 32-year-old Lynda Mae Taylor of Grants Pass was driving recklessly and under the influence of intoxicants. Taylor was hospitalized for weeks due to injuries she sustained in the crash and is being held at the Jackson County Jail on the following charges: Manslaughter in the First Degree X 2, Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants, and Reckless Driving.
The case will be presented to Grand Jury on Thursday, May 8th.
Update (4/3 12:09pm): The Jackson County Sheriff's office has confirmed that the fatal accident on the 3600 block of North River Road on Wednesday afternoon has now claimed the life of a second victim. 80-year-old Jerry Barrett of Medford died just before 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday as a result of injuries he sustained in the crash.
Officials say 32-year-old Lynda Mae Taylor lost control of her vehicle on a corner. The vehicle slid sideways, directly into the path of a beige 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by Barrett. Taylor's passenger, Joe David Campos died at the scene.
The Jackson County Sheriff's Office believe that alcohol, drugs, and excessive speed are believed to be factors in the crash. Taylor is currently hospitalized at Rogue Regional Medical Center.
Gold Hill, Ore. -- A Grants Pass man died in a car accident that happened on North River Road Wednesday. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office said they're looking into what caused the fatal crash.
They said It happened just before 1:30 on North River Road in between exits 45 and 48 off I-5.
Police said 32-year-old Lynda Mae Taylor from Grants Pass was driving a red KIA with her passenger, Joe David Campos, also from Grants Pass.
They said Taylor lost control of the car and fish-tailed into 80- year -old Jerry Vernon Barrett from Gold Hill who was driving a brown Buick.
Campos died at the scene.
Medics took both drivers to the hospital. Police said Taylor is in critical condition and Barrett is in serious condition
North River Road was closed for several hours.
