Ashland, Ore. --- A man suspected of robbing an Ashland gas station at gun point in February is behind bars.
Ashland police arrested Francisco Javier Mercado-Chavez. He is suspected of robbing the 76 Astro station off of 3rd and Gresham in Ashland on February 8th.
The clerk at the gas station reported the she was approached by a man who stated that he wanted to buy cigarettes. The suspect then stated the he was there to rob the gas station, and touched a handgun that he had tucked into his waist band.
The clerk complied with the suspect’s demand and turned money over to the suspect. The suspect fled on foot, northbound across Lithia Way and was able to make off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Mercado-Chavez is being held on $1,000,000 bail.
