Never heard or seen the Z-stik before?
Well that's because it's brand new creation from Grants Pass native Greg Dahl.
" kind of crazy designed it in my sleep...woke up the next morning and built the first one"
Straight from his dreams and into the musical world. "It took me 3 days to build...because it was segmented and to glue together...all from my memory"
But after those three days...all Greg knew, was that he a new style rain stick..until friend Ron Nicholson told him it's a new wave drum as well.
Greg says, "it's the first of a kind an electric percussion drum."
It took two years mold the z-stick into a the versitle instrument it is today and at a recent conference in Southern California, Greg says it got some big time attention.
"Stevie Wonder played it at the namm show...and he said it's going to be included in his newest recording."
It's rare in history that a new instrument is created and you are seeing it at just the beginning stages...who knows how it will be implemented into the songs of the future.
"Everyone plays it in a different way...there are no rules. were discovering new things every day" A crazy new sound for the world to enjoy and all from a night's dream, in Grants Pass.
