Update (04/28 6:30 p.m.) — According to the FBI, Medford Police Officers found several pipe bombs while serving a federal search warrant at the apartment on Poplar Drive.
Two men were living in the apartment, one was home at the time of the search. He was detained, but later released without charges. The second resident of the apartment was located by FBI agents at another location in Medford.
The FBI has identified 61-year-old John Martin Roos as the subject of the search warrant. Agents arrested Roos on charges of threatening the President of the United States and the use of an interstate facility to transmit threats.
Roos is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail. The FBI says it’s likely he will go before a judge within a few days.

Update (04/28 3:25 p.m.) — The homemade explosive device found inside an apartment at Poplar Village has been removed by the OSP Explosives Unit.

Medford, Ore. — A Medford apartment complex is evacuated after federal investigators and local police find a homemade bomb while serving a search warrant. Medford police were assisting the FBI in a search of an apartment at Poplar Village, when they located an explosive device.
Police immediately evacuated the surrounding 8 apartments, until the Oregon State Police Explosives Unit arrived. They confirmed it was a homemade explosive.
Neighbors tell us it’s shocking, but say they are confident in their first responders.
“You know to find out someone has explosive devices in their apartment,” Jane Ayers says, “there’s only one purpose for an explosive device and thats to cause trouble.”
“We got a lot of really great people here as far as the police force so they know what theyre doing,” Daniel Ruiz says.
One man is in custody, though police are keeping tight lipped about what the case is regarding. Bomb techs from the OSP Explosives Unit went into the apartment to remove and disrupt the explosive.
An FBI spokeswoman didn’t immediately return our calls for comment.
