Squatters take over Klamath Falls house

Klamath Falls, Ore. – A Klamath Falls man says a squatter is keeping him busy with an unusual case of attempted house theft.

Ron Rogers purchased the house last spring with a plan of fixing it up.

But about a week ago, Rogers says he couldn’t open the front door. “We started going around the house, we noticed all the windows were all blocked out – but one of the windows was left unlocked, so we got in.”

Rogers found someone had been living in the house, and called police. “The officer showed up, and he said, just move their stuff outside, and hopefully they’ll come back and pick it up – so we did that.”

A man named ‘Reuben’ showed up that night – with a rental agreement.

“He did have my name and phone number on it, but he did not have my signature,” said Rogers. “Nothing made sense, with all the doors screwed shut, and the windows blocked out.”

The man left, but the next morning, all the brand new kitchen appliances were gone.

“Somebody came by around, I’m guessing 6 or so, and broke into the garage door,” said Ron Rogers.

Rogers says the man has also been trying to get the utilities put in his name.  “Had he established residency, we might have had a little more difficulty in getting him out.”

Rogers says the man may have been driving a light blue or gray minivan with Utah plates.

Those with any information are asked to call the Klamath Falls Police.
