114 criminal charges for Bend babysitter who allegedly left children unattended

Bend, Ore. — A Bend babysitter who was arrested for leaving 7 children unattended while she went to a tanning salon now has 114 criminal charges.

31-year-old January Neatherlin was caught a week ago after Bend Police said they received an anonymous tip that she was leaving young children alone in her daycare.

Following up on the tip, detectives watched numerous children getting dropped off at the home. After a couple of hours, January left the residence in a vehicle.

Police said January was contacted at a local tanning salon. She did not have any children with her.

Police said they eventually entered the home and found seven children inside with ages ranging from 6-months to 4-years-old.

On Tuesday, Neatherlin was officially charged with 76 counts of criminal mistreatment and 38 counts of recklessly endangering another person.

According to a criminal indictment, Neatherlin allegedly left children alone during many different incidents between March 3 and March 15.

KTVZ reports Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel said, “Neatherlin is alleged to have, on numerous occasions, left the two to seven kids in her care, who ranged in ages from 6 months to 4 years old, alone in her house when she went to the gym and tanning salon.”

“Nothing is more precious than the safety and security of our children,” D.A. Hummel continued. “If the allegations against Ms. Neatherlin are proven in court, I will seek the maximum penalty authorized by law.”
