84 undocumented immigrants arrested in Pacific Northwest sweep

Portland, Ore. – During a three day sweep, eighty-four undocumented immigrants were arrested in Oregon and Washington, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced.

KGW reports sixty of those people had past criminal records, twenty-four did not.

ICE agents said they frequently encounter “additional suspects” that may be arrested after an evaluation.

The sweep took place between March 25 and 27. Agents said ICE specifically targeted “criminal aliens, illegal re-entrants and immigration fugitives.”

ICE spokesperson Rose Richeson said, “ICE does not conduct sweeps, checkpoints, or raids that target aliens indiscriminately.”

19 of those arrested had criminal convictions for DUII. Other convictions include assault, larceny, domestic violence, sexual assault, and possession of illegal drugs.

According to ICE, some of the arrestees will face federal prosecution and could face up to 20 years in prison. The rest will be deported.

Under the Trump administration, ICE has been given more authority to arrest undocumented immigrants.

Despite the current administrations stricter police, more than 2 million people were arrested during the Obama presidency, according to a KGW report.
