(NBC News) – Burt Reynolds, the biggest box office star of the 1970s, has died at the age of 82.
During the 70s Reynolds starred in nearly 20 films, including the classics “Smokey and the Bandit,” “The Longest Yard” and “Deliverance.”
Known as the quintessential man’s man, he and even posed for a semi-nude centerfold that appeared in Cosmopolitan in 1972.
The actor was also a regular guest on Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show,” where he showed off his sense of humor in more than 60 appearances.
Reynolds starred on several TV series as well, from a small recurring role on “Gunsmoke” in the 1960s to “Evening Shade” in the 1990s.
He was also well-known for his romances, with marriages to Judy Carne of “Laugh-In” and Loni Anderson, along with long-term relationships with Dinah Shore and Oscar winner Sally Field.
