Added Greenway patrols following 9th fire

7.15 NIKKI GREENWAY FIREMedford, Ore. — Local police are stepping up patrols after yet another fire sparks near the Bear Creek Greenway. This is the ninth fire in less than two weeks, many happening near the Greenway, and investigators are calling the fires suspicious.

Police say no one has been charged in the cases, and witness statements have varied a lot. They’re now stepping up efforts to patrol the area.

“We’ve got some additional bike patrols that are going to be down there,” Lieutenant Kevin Walruff of the Medford Police Department says, “we’ve got a Greenway sweep that’s planned to be down there where we can get a lot of that stuff cleaned up down there, and our officers are all aware of it.”

They did make contact with a person of interest, but again no one has been charged. Anyone with any information on the fires is asked to call police.
