Agate Road off Highway 62 to close permanently

Central Point, Ore., — Starting Monday morning, Agate Road off Highway 62 will be permanently closed.

The closure is part of phase two of the 120 million dollar expressway project.

The project will allow traffic to move directly to White City, Eagle Point and northeast Jackson County from Medford, without traveling on busy Crater Lake Highway or Highway 62.

In 2018 a stop light will replace the current stop signs at the Agate Road- 62 intersection.

You will still be able to access Agate and Gregory Roads in the mean time by turning on Leigh way, Antelope Road, or Avenue “G”.

“I think it will inconvenience some folks right at first, and we’ve had message boards up for a full week. And it may catch some people by surprise.” said Gary Leaming, the spokesman for ODOT.

Highway 62 lanes and Corey Road will also be closed at night starting tomorrow for one week.

The full expressway project is expected to be completed in 2019.
