Art glass industry in trouble

Grants Pass, Ore., — The art glass industry is under fire for what it’s putting in the air, and it’s affecting a Rogue Valley business.

Two major northwest glass suppliers, Bullseye Glass in Portland and Spectrum outside Seattle, have been investigated by the DEQ for sending unsafe emissions into the air.

While Bullseye Glass has been issued a cease and desist, Spectrum has shut down entirely.

For “The Glass Forge” in Grants Pass, that’s bad news, Spectrum is where their glass supply comes from.

“Nervous in the fact that there’s an unknown, now we don’t know where our current supply of nuggets are gonna be coming from.” said Owner Lee Wassink.

Wassink says they have a 12,000 pound order already placed before Spectrum shuts down in September that should hold them over until they can find another supplier.
