Ashland residents prepare for wildfire season

FIREWISE PICAshland, Ore. — Preparing for wildfire season was a little easier and more cost-effective for folks in Ashland today.

From 9 to 3 today, Ashland’s Firewise Cleanup Day was held at the Valley View Transfer Station.  The “Wildfire Mitigation Commission”, “Recology Ashland” and Ashland Fire and Rescue all teamed up today for the event.

Anyone with yard debris could drop it off for free.

“We ask citizens of Ashland to clean up the dead debris and even live trees and bushes and shrubs around their home, and clean up their yard and get it ready for fire season,” said Fire Adapted Communities Coordinator Alison Lerch.

This is the 5th year of the Firewise Cleanup Day for Ashland. Organizers say it’s grown substantially with each event.
