Ashland’s Festival of Light helps local business

Ashland, Ore. — It’s that time of year again.

The holiday season is kicking off in Ashland with the Festival of Light, and local stores are looking forward to the business it brings.

Holiday spirit is strong tonight after Ashland’s 24th annual Festival of Light, and businesses are thriving from it.

The holiday season is officially here.

Carols… the clauses… and in Ashland, the Festival of Light.

Savannah Tobrock has been going to the Festival of Light every year since she was a child.

“I love to like… have it get all dark and everybody counts down and the lights turn on and it’s so exciting,” Tobrock said.

And that excitement extends to local shops.

“A lot of the stores are like eclectic and they have their own atmosphere which is why I think a lot of people like them,” Tobrock said.

For 45 years, Nimbus has sold clothing and artwork.

The shop owner says the holiday tradition increases cheer and business.

“In Ashland we decorate our town and we try to make it welcoming and friendly and show people a real good shopping experience so they can have fun while they’re shopping,” Owner Ken Silverman said.

Silverman says it’s fun for him too as customers have been visiting his store steadily all day and into the night.

But while business is booming, Silverman says the top priority isn’t the bottom line.

It’s the holiday spirit everyone can enjoy.

“It’s no charge, you just can walk into town and be in awe of the beauty of it and feel the spirit of the season,” Silverman said.

Silverman says the lights will remain up into the new year, and he hopes visitors and the community will join Ashland to enjoy the fun.
