At least 16 dead after cyclone strikes India

MAHARASHTRA, India (NBC) – Residents in India’s Maharashtra state woke up Tuesday to a trail of destruction left by a powerful cyclone that slammed into the country’s west coast.

Uprooted trees and electricity poles, along with damaged walls and other structures were seen in Maharashtra, a day after Cyclone Tauktae made landfall.

Authorities said the cyclone has already killed at least 16 people.

The storm piles more pressure on Indian authorities already struggling with a staggering caseload of COVID-19 infections.
