Biden to withdraw all troops from Afghanistan by September, sources say

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CNN) – President Biden is planning to announce a full withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Two people familiar with the plans say US troops will withdraw by September 11 to mark a symbolic end to the longest war in American history.

The Trump administration had set a May 1 deadline in an agreement with the Taliban.

This only extends the presence of US troops by a matter of months.

US officials say there are currently about 2,500 troops in Afghanistan.
