Del Norte County, Calif. — A Grants Pass teen is found dead in her car after it went into Smith River.
The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office says 19-year-old Montgomery Green’s car went 55 feet down an embankment before hitting the river between Gasquet and Hiouchi on Thursday.
Rescuers weren’t able to pull the car out of the river because of the strong current and high water level.
Crews weren’t able to recover the vehicle and body until Saturday due to dangerous river conditions.
