Boulders deter illegal camping in Portland neighborhood

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) – Are ODOT’s boulders keeping homeless Portland campers away? If you talk to neighbors in the Goose Hollow area of Portland, the resounding answer is yes, ODOT’s boulders are keeping homeless campers away.

“We haven’t had to watch drug deals and prostitution and bikes getting disassembled and sold right on our front door. So from our point of view, it’s great,” said William Flaiz. Flaiz is referring to the boulders the Oregon Department of Transportation put in at Southwest 14th and Montgomery a few weeks ago. So far, the campers haven’t come back.
