Busiest day of the year for Medford airport

Medford, Ore. — The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport seeing a huge spike in travelers on their busiest travel day of the year.

Airport Director Bern Case said with everyone coming and going for the Thanksgiving holiday there aren’t many flights with open seats. Case expects around 3,000 travelers in and out of their gates today. That’s about 800 more than usual. Despite the increase in people, a couple travelers said things went pretty smoothly.

“We came from L.A. that’s a zoo. The Medford Airport here is a breath of fresh air, lots of people to help and not a lot of crowds,” Cathy Lutz said.

Although the airport sees more people around the Christmas holiday the Wednesday before Thanksgiving is always their busiest because everyone is leaving or arriving on the same day. Case said Thanksgiving through Saturday will be pretty slow, but things will pick back up on Sunday and Monday when everyone travels back home.
