Businesses placing special orders for blue bulbs

Central Point, Ore. — Businesses in the Rogue Valley are making room on store shelves to keep up with the demand for blue light bulbs.

NBC5 News told you last week about a post on facebook that encouraged residents to switch out their porch light for a blue bulb during the month of August, as a way to support local police. The idea has taken off, and now local stores are placing special orders.

“In the old days you would have like a green light, a blue light, a possible a red light here and there, but not on the norm anymore,” manager Kevin Crumley of Ray’s Food Place says, “but this is a great idea, and I think its a super way to support our police officers.”

Crumley says a shipment of about 500 bulbs should be in by Thursday. Grover Electric & Plumbing on North Pacific Highway says they’ll have more by Friday, and Bobbio’s Pizza will be giving away a free blue bulb with the purchase of a pizza.
