Bybee Creek Fire 73% contained

0808 Bybee Creek FireCrater Lake Nat’l Park, Ore — The fire burning near Crater Lake has decreased in size as crews continue to gain ground on the blaze.

The Bybee Creek Fire is now 73% contained, up from 59% Sunday. As of Monday morning, the entire the Pacific Crest Trail is back open, and the level one evacuation warning has been lifted for Rim Village.

According to firefighters, visitors may still see smoke as small unburned islands within the fire perimeter and inside the caldera continue to burn.

The fire started on July 28th, about two miles west of Crater Lake. Crews are still working to determine the cause.
