California explosion caught on camera

ONTARIO, Calif. (NBC) – A cell phone camera captured Tuesday’s deadly fireworks explosion in Southern California.

It happened just around 12:30 p.m. local time in the city of Ontario.

Officials say the explosion was ignited by a stockpile of what appears to be commercial-grade fireworks.

The blast left two people dead and prompted evacuations in the immediate area.

Fire officials say it’s still unclear what sparked the explosion, but an investigation will begin as soon as the area is deemed safe.
