California to ban natural hair discrimination

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (CNN) – The California state assembly has passed a bill banning employers from discriminating against people with natural hair.

The Crown Act would be the first statewide ban on natural hair discrimination.

The bill says workplace policies can be unfair to African Americans.

Senator Holly Mitchell, the bill’s sponsor, says that there are “too many reports of black children humiliated” because of their natural hair.

The bill will go to the governor to be signed.
