Canadian brothers meet in Medford for icy sibling rivalry

Medford, Ore — It’s sibling rivalry at it’s finest, the Southern Oregon Spartans take on the Fresno Monsters and two brothers are on the opposing teams.

It’s a family reunion of sorts for Chris and Cameron Seto. The two Canadian brothers live and breath hockey and Friday night was the first night they got to take each other on while playing for two different teams in the same league.

It’s one of the coldest sibling rivalries on the west coast.

“I say 4-2, Spartan win,” said Chris Seto, predicting a Southern Oregon win.

“I have to go at least 5 to 1,” said Cameron Seto, favoring Fresno.

Cameron and Chris Seto have been playing hockey since their kindergarten years, but this game is special.

“It’s a big night, playing against my brother, should be any normal game but you know there’s always something with siblings,” said Cameron.

Chris plays for the Southern Oregon Spartans, Cameron for the Fresno Monsters. Both play left wing. Now, for the first time, they’re matched up, head to head.

“It’s probably going to be one of the best times, one of the best games I’ve ever had,” said Chris.

“When it’s someone you know, especially your brother you may have this inner tension, competition between the two,” said Cameron.

With their parents in the stands and their skates on the ice it’s all about bragging rights.

“It’s nice seeing them and getting to talk to them after the game, for sure,” said Cameron.

“With my parents here, makes me want to play a little harder, show off a little bit,” said Chris.

Besides some questionable tapping the game was mostly civil between the two.

“It’s one to cherish, for the memories.”

Cameron and Chris Seto will play 3 games this weekend. Saturday’s game is at 7:30pm, Sunday’s at 1:30pm. Both are at the Rrrink Ice Facility in Medford.
