Charges dropped against Alabama spanking grandfather

NC_grandpa0629_1500x845Scottsboro, Ala. (WAFF) — A 73-year-old grandfather, James Chapman, faced two counts of domestic violence for how he punished his adopted grandchildren inside of an Alabama McDonald’s in May.

Both charges were dropped on Tuesday.

He was arrested after a patron at the McDonald’s called police claiming he disciplined the children too harshly and pulled one out by the arm.

His attorney says surveillance video shows that’s not the case.

Chapman spent 24-hours in jail and was kept away from his grandchildren for a week.

“I was done unjust. I should have never been arrested but I was,” Chapman said.

He says the incident has caused him to rethink using discipline in public, and that he’s just glad that the ordeal is over.
