Medford City Council approves Vietnam War Memorial Wall

Medford, Ore. —  Plans have moved forward for a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial wall in the Rogue Valley after a unanimous city council vote on Thursday.

The location for the replica, which is in the fundraising stages, will be located at US Cellular Community Park near the Coyote Trails Nature Center.

The group behind the project said it will not only help educate people about the Vietnam War, but will serve as a healing ground for veterans.

“Each vet will get to come back over and touch those that saved their life and/or that they knew. families and otherwise, come on down,” said Ron Kohl, president of Southern Oregon Veterans Benefits.

The 25-year lease from the city will cost the group only a dollar each year, but the fundraising to build the wall is only just beginning. They need $500,000 to complete the project.

Proceeds from Thursday’s Kenny Rogers concert at the Lithia Ampitheatre expo will go towards the efforts to build the wall.
