City of Medford planning many summer projects

Medford, Ore. — The city of Medford is planning for its summer projects.

They include everything from road work to sidewalks.

With such a wet winter, public works says there are a lot of maintenance projects that need to be addressed.

The projects range from permanent fixes to pot holes, rehabilitating pavers and tree grates on Central Avenue and adding handicap ramps that are compliant with the American Disability Act.

Public Works Director Cory Crebbin says one specific project involves Lozier Lane.

He says the city and county are working together to put in bike lanes and sidewalks after an accident involving pedestrians a few years ago.

But he says it’s also important to be cautious around the construction zones as those who get injured are usually the travelers.

“We would ask not only for the safety of our contractors and public works employees, but the safety of the traveling public that they do be careful and they do slow down and obey the flaggers and advisory signs and stuff that are in the construction zones,” Crebbin said.

Other projects include fixing a storm drain that’s collapsing on 6th street, replacing the signals on Oakdale  and Main and adding ‘slurry seal’ to streets.

According to Crebbin, the goal for pavement maintenance is to make the cost the lowest it can be over the next 50 years.

Crebbin says the completion dates vary depending on the project.
